    Biography:

Hi, I’m Kay. If you’re here, it probably means you’re carrying something heavy—and you’re looking for someone who will truly listen, care, and help you find your way through it. I want you to know from the very beginning: you don’t have to face it alone.

My journey into counseling didn’t begin in a classroom—it began with my own story. Growing up in a Hispanic household, mental health wasn’t something that was openly discussed, and therapy wasn’t seen as an option. I experienced challenges that left lasting wounds, and for a long time, I had to navigate my healing on my own. Those experiences shaped not only who I am but also the therapist I strive to be. They gave me a deep compassion for people who are hurting and a passion for helping others discover that healing is possible.

    How I Can Help

As a Registered Mental Health Counselor Intern, I’ve had the privilege of working with children, adolescents, and adults experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, relationship difficulties, anger, life transitions, low self-esteem, and chronic stress. My clinical experience includes providing therapy in private practice, working with individuals in the county jail, supporting clients recovering from addiction, and counseling children and adolescents in school settings.

My approach is compassionate, collaborative, and individualized because I believe there isn’t a “one-size-fits-all” approach to therapy. I utilize evidence-based approaches, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), trauma-informed care, and person-centered therapy, while tailoring treatment to each client’s unique needs and goals.

One of the things I’m most passionate about is helping clients understand why they’re feeling the way they do. When we understand how the brain, nervous system, and past experiences influence our emotions, thoughts, and behaviors, healing often feels less overwhelming and more attainable. I enjoy teaching clients about these connections and equipping them with practical tools they can use in everyday life—not just during our sessions together. My goal is for you to leave therapy feeling understood, empowered, and confident in your ability to navigate life’s challenges.

What It’s Like to Work With Me

The therapeutic relationship is one of the most important parts of the healing process. My goal is to create a space where you feel safe enough to be yourself, to be honest about your struggles, and to be hopeful about what’s possible.

Clients often tell me they appreciate that I genuinely care, listen without judgment, and explain things in a way that helps them make sense of what they’re experiencing. I believe therapy should be both supportive and practical—offering compassion while also giving you meaningful strategies that promote lasting change.

When you work with me, you can expect:

    • A warm, supportive, and nonjudgmental environment.
    • Honest conversations balanced with empathy and encouragement.
    • Education about how your brain, body, and emotions work together.
    • Practical coping skills and tools you can apply between sessions.
    • A therapist who celebrates your progress while walking beside you through the difficult moments.

There is nothing more rewarding to me than watching clients recognize strengths they didn’t know they had and begin to believe that healing and growth are truly possible.

    A Little About Me

Outside of counseling, you’ll usually find me spending time with my family—they’re my safe place—or with my two dogs. I’m a huge animal lover and would rescue every animal I could if I had the space. I love relaxing at the beach, getting lost in a good book, and experimenting with new recipes in the kitchen.
